David Ortiz The ''Big Papi ''


David Americo Ortiz Arias (Santo Domingo Oeste, November 18, 1975) is a designated hitter who play in the organization of the Red Sox, but sometimes plays at first base during interleague games. Nicknamed the "Big Papi" or "Mr. October", Ortiz previously played for the Minnesota Twins (1997-2002). It is a nine-time All-Star and has the record for home runs in a regular season in the Red Sox with 54, set during the 2006 season In 2005, the owner of the Red Sox gave him a plaque that proclaims as "the greatest clutch-hitter in the history of the Red Sox" 1 2 is also one of 50 players to hit at least 400 home runs in MLB history.
Ortiz has hit 500 career home runs, with this beats Ted Williams in Boston. It ranked 27th in the list of all MLB home run times.

Seattle Mariners y Minnesota Twins (1992-2002)[editar]

Ortiz se graduó de la Escuela Secundaria Estudia Espallat en la República Dominicana y en 1992 fue firmado por los Marineros de Seattle quienes lo registraron como "David Arias". 2003[editar]

In 2004, Ortiz played an important role in leading the Red Sox to their first World Series championship in 86 years. This was the second year of Ortiz with the Red Sox and his first year as a full-time designated hitter. During the season, Ortiz was elected to the All-Star team for the first time in his career, he batted .301 with 41 homers and 139 RBIs and an OPS of .983 career. In the postseason, Ortiz hit .409 with five homers and 23 RBIs. He took several hits to win the game and help move to Boston and finally win the World Series. Ortiztambién was suspended for five games (later reduced to three because of an appeal) after being ejected following an incident on July 16 in a game against the Angels in which he threw several bats in the field that were about to hitting umpires Bill Hohn and Mark Carlson. He homered that gave the victory to his team against pitcher Jarrod Washburn to win the Division Series against the Angels American League. Later, he hit another against the New York Yankees in Game 4 of the ALCS and a single that gave the victory to his team in Game 5 of the ALCS American League. His post-season heroic earned MVP honors in the ALCS, the first time a designated hitter was chosen MVP. In addition, he finished fourth in the MVP voting.

Ortiz hit 47 homers and 148 RBIs while batting .300. He led the AL in RBIs and finished second in home runs. He finished second in the MVP voting, as he led the Red Sox to their third straight postseason.

2006[editar]

In 2006, Ortiz hit 54 homers (setting a new record in the Red Sox) and had 137 RBIs while batting .287 with an OPS of 1.049. He led the American League in home runs and both RBIs, winning the home run crown by 10 over second-placed Jermaine Dye.
On September 20, Ortiz tied the record of 50 homers in Red losMedias that set Jimmie Foxx in 1938, in the sixth inning against starter pitcher Boof Bonser Minnesota Twins.
On September 27, Ortiz broke the record he had previously tied with Foxx hitting 51 against his former teammate Johan Santana of the Minnesota Twins. The home run was as a pinch hitter in the first inning and went to his homer 44 homer as a designated hitter, breaking her own American League in a season.

Health problems [edit]
Ortiz said he began feeling ill between games of a doubleheader on Aug. 18, 2006, against New York. Between games, he went home and tried to sleep, but could not. Reportedly, Ortiz was taken to a hospital by a team assistant. According to doctors, the cause of the tension was due to irregular heartbeats. Ortizoriginalmente did not want to talk about his condition, but opened to the media on 25 August 2006, reportedly saying: "I am a healthy son [sound of gun]" (I'm a healthy son of a [ gun].) 4
On August 28, 2006, Ortiz had recurring symptoms of irregular heartbeat and a scratch in the last minute of the game the Red Sox in Oakland. Manager Terry Francona and general manager Theo Epstein agreed that Ortiz returned to Boston, where were revalued to be inserted to play again in early September.

In 2007, Ortiz again became an important piece that helped lead the Red Sox to their seventh World Series title. Despite playing all season with a right knee meniscoroto and nagging injuries in the shoulder and quadriceps, he finished the year hitting .332 with 35 homers and 117 RBIs. In addition, he hit 52 doubles, led the American League in extra-base hits and had an OPS of 1.066. In the playoffs, he batted .370 with 3 home runs and 10 RBIs.

2008[editar]

2008 was a frustrating season for Ortiz. After starting slowly he suffered a wrist injury that forced him to miss several weeks. He played in only 109 games and finished the season batting .264 with just 23 homers and 89 RBIs, his lowest numbers since joining the Red Sox. However, the ratio of home run every 18.1 at-bats still led the team. In his first six seasons with Boston, Ortiz had hit 231 home runs, with the most home runs against the Rays (34) and the Yankees (25) .3

2009[editar]

Ortiz struggled at the start of the 2009 season, hitting only .206 with no homers and 30 strikeouts in his first 34 games. On May 22, Ortiz hit his first homer of the season against pitcher Brett Cecil of the Toronto Blue Jays, ending his 178 at-bats without jonrones.5 In June, Ortiz left his batting slump connecting 8 home runs and pushing 22 races. On July 9, Ortiz hit his homer 300 against Luke Hochevar of Kansas Cityen Fenway Park. Ortiz hit nine homers in July and August. He hit 28 RBIs in July.
On September 17, Ortiz hit his homer against 270 as a designated hitter Jose Arredondo Anaheim Angels breaking the all time record held by Frank Thomas.
Ortiz finished the season with 28 homers and 99 RBIs.

2010 [edit]

In the 2010 season, Ortiz hit .270 with 32 homers and 102 RBIs. He also won the Home Run Derby.

2011 [edit]

On April 2, 2011, Ortiz set the record for RBIs with 1,004 designated hitter Edgar Martinez beating.

On May 21, 2011, Ortiz became the fifth player to hit 300 homers as a member of the Red Sox, joining Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, Jim Rice and Dwight Evans.

On July 7, 2011, Ortiz hit his first back-to-back, with his teammates Josh Reddick and Jarrod Saltalamacchia, respectively, against the Baltimore Orioles. In the same month, in a game against the Baltimore Orioles, Ortiz was suspended after a brawl caused by three glued pitches thrown by the pitcher Kevin Gregg Orioles.

On July 27, 2011, Ortiz hit a grand slam with which reached 1,000 RBIs as a member of the Boston Red Sox, which will join Carl Yastrzemki, Ted Williams, Jim Rice, Dwigght Evans and Bobby Doerr, with that figure in the franchise.

Ortiz finished the season batting .309 with 29 homers and 96 RBIs.

On October 20, 2011, Ortiz received the Roberto Clemente Award.

2012 [edit]

On July 4, at the O.co Coliseum in Oakland, Ortiz hit his 400th homer to pitcher Oakland A. J. Griffin. On July 16, Ortiz suffered an injury to the Achilles heel that ended his season. He finished the season hitting .318 with 23 homers and 60 RBIs in 90 games.

2013-2014-2015 (500) home runs [edit]

On April 20, before starting the first game played at Fenway Park since the bombing in Boston and his first appearance since August 2012 after an injury to the Achilles tendon, Ortiz spoke to the crowd and said, "This is our fucking city, and no one is going to dictate our freedom. Ortiz finished the season batting .309 with 30 home runs and 103 RBI. This being his seventh season with 30 or more homers and 100 or more RBIs was also essential piece to the Red Sox won their third World Series championship in the last 10 years, winning in six games against the St. Louis Cardinals, David Ortiz was named MVP of the world series. .6

Ortiz finished the season batting 263 with 35 homers and 104 RBIs with, this being his eighth season with 30 or more homers and 100 or more RBIs.

2015 (500 HRs)

On September 12, 2015 ortiz I connect the 500th home run of his career in a game against the Tampa Bay Rays in elTropicana Field, in the first inning he hit 499 HR., Then in the fifth he hit a line down the right-center to Matt Moore to reach the 500 HR., plus accumulated over 50 games a home run in his career of 19 years in the best baseball in the world. It is the fourth Red Sox player who reaches 500 with the team, joining Jimmie Foxx (1940), Ted Williams (1960) and Manny Ramirez (2008) .Its 500th homer was a reminder of his greatness. Brands such as this remind us just lucky we are to see play Big Papi.

David Ortiz became the 27th baseball player in the history of major league hitting 500 home runs.

- Ortiz finished the season with 37 homers and 273 with 108 RBIs this being his ninth season with 30 or more homers and 100 or more RBIs. I also accomplished the feat of being the No. 500 homers in 27 major league history to do so. ortiz has option for two more years with the Red Sox.
